Follow These Tips for Easy Fall Pool Maintenance

Fall is officially here, and many Spring, Texas, residents are wondering how to get their pool prepared for the new season. While long days spent by the pool may be fewer as the water cools down, it’s still important to make sure your pool is in top shape for fall. At Champions Pool Repair & Service, we understand that it can be difficult to know where to begin your fall pool maintenance, so we’ve laid out some easy tips to follow:

  1. Keep the Leaves out of Your Pool

The classic fall combination of windier weather and falling tree leaves can mean bad news for your pool. These leaves can quickly clog up your pool if left ignored, so be sure to keep an eye on the debris in your water. A leaf skimmer can be used to manually clean fallen leaves out of your pool, or you can utilize skimmer baskets that catch debris before they reach the bottom of your pool. However, it is important to keep in mind that cleaning the skimmer baskets periodically is required to prevent any clogs or algae growth.

  1. Give Your Pool a Good Cleaning

Beyond keeping leaves out of the water, it’s important to give your pool a good general cleaning this season as well. Clean the pool filter to ensure that hair and oils from those that have been in your pool are cleaned from the water. Additionally, give the pool tiles a good scrubbing with a sturdy brush that will remove any grime built up on the tiles. As keeping up with pool cleaning can be overwhelming, it’s a good idea to seek the help of a professional pool service to ensure your pool stays sparkling, no matter what season it is.

  1. Check the Water Chemistry

With the increased rainfall and cooler temperatures that come along with fall, it’s a good idea to ensure your water has the right amount of chemicals in it. Purchase some test strips from your local pool supply store and follow the included directions to check the chemical levels in your water. This can help prevent problems like cloudy water and overall pool damage. If you notice that your water doesn’t have the proper chemical levels, talk to a professional pool maintenance company to help address the issue.

  1. Invest in a Solar Cover

As we get further into fall and the time comes to cover your pool, consider investing in a solar cover to get the job done. These covers can prevent heat loss as the temperatures cool down, along with preventing water evaporation during the day, so you don’t have to refill your pool as often. Additionally, the cover prevents debris from entering your pool, meaning you won’t have to clean the water as often.
