Many residents in Spring, Texas, are getting ready to travel as summer gets closer and closer. However, before you board your flight and enjoy your vacation, it’s important to make sure your pool will be kept in top condition while you’re gone. The pool experts at Champions Pool Repair & Service understand that no one wants to return from vacation to pool problems, so we’ve laid out some tips to prepare your pool for your vacation:

  1. Check Your Water

You’ll be away from your pool for several days (or longer) when on vacation, so you’ll want to ensure that all water chemistry levels are where they need to be before you leave. You can either test the water yourself with a testing kit, or you can enlist the help of your local pool service company. Testing the water before you leave for vacation allows you to correct any water chemistry issues that may cause a problem while you are gone. The recommended levels are:

  • Alkalinity: 100 to 150 ppm
  • Calcium Hardness: 175 to 225 ppm (225 to 275 ppm for plaster pools)
  • Chlorine: 1 to 3 ppm
  • pH:4 to 7.6

  1. Purchase a Timer

If your pool pump does not have a timer, it may be a good idea to invest in one before heading out for your vacation. This allows your pump and filter to run while you are away, helping your pool stay clear and clean. Having the timer run 8 to 12 hours a day is best; however, you can run it 24 hours a day if you wish.

  1. Seek the Help of a Professional Pool Maintenance Company

If you will be traveling for a week or longer, it’s a good idea to have a professional pool maintenance company help keep your pool in top shape while you’re gone. This allows your pool to be cleaned and maintained by professionals, meaning you will return to a sparkling, problem-free pool. Additionally, it allows your equipment to be examined by pool experts that can alert you if its time to replace any crucial components in your pool.

  1. Enlist the Help of a Friend

Ask a friend or a neighbor to keep watch over your pool while you’re gone. Your pool may require a daily skimming to remove any debris in between the weekly visits from a professional pool maintenance company. Additionally, a daily check-in allows any emergency problems to be caught as quickly as possible. Leave the number of your pool repair company in the event an emergency does occur with your pool.

No one wants to return from vacation to a dirty or malfunctioning pool. These easy tips will help protect your pool while you’re away. If you’re getting ready to travel, give the pool experts at Champions Pool Repair & Service a call at (281) 355-8504.
